For many the end of the financial year, finishing work in time for clients, whilst at home putting up the tree and getting ready for Christmas. And this year some early snowfalls to add some seasonal magic.
As well as the excitement and busy preparations there is also the symbolic ending of the calendar year and a fresh New Year awaiting full of potential possibilities. As Carl Jung the eminent psychologist wrote, symbols underpin human culture and Christmas and New Year present just such a moment for a rethink and reboot.
If you manage to snatch some quieter moments do take the time to reflect on the year that is passing and your hopes for 2018. You may want to take this further by thinking about your career, next steps and potential new skills that you want to acquire to make a shift.
If there is one book I can recommend to support you thinking about your own future, your family, the people you manage and your organisation, it is
THE 100 YEAR LIFE by Gratton and Scott.
An excellent read for baby boomers and millennials alike. As well as senior leaders and anyone in the world of HR, recruitment and talent management.
We are transitioning from a three stage life of education, work and retirement to at least a five stage life, that will require more active planning, flexibility and life long learning. A new mindset and action will be required to reframe our thinking from seeing this additional time and an extended old age from a curse to a gift. Life can be richer, more varied, and with greater cross generational connectivity as we work and live closer together as generations.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and every happiness and success for 2018.
